Group Rules

What happens in the Canadian Journalists of Colour (CJOC) Facebook and Slack groups stays there – so everything said or GIF’d or emoji’d is off the record. This is a safe space to network, provide mutual support and share resources. We’re all smart enough to know that nothing on the interwebs is 100% safe or secure, so that’s where common sense comes in. Be respectful, and help keep this space as accessible and inclusive as possible.

1

Keep this a BIPOC space

Only Canadian or Canada-based journalists who identify as Black, Indigenous or people of colour can become group members. Allies: While we appreciate your support, this space is for us for now.

2

Be kind and courteous

Help keep this space as accessible and inclusive as possible. Healthy debates are encouraged, but respectfulness is required. Don't be a jerk.

3

No hate speech or bullying

Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.

4

Respect everyone's privacy

Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group.

5

No promotions or spam

Give more to this group than you take. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed.
